Major US Drugstore chains eye growth even during recession

Despite the global recession affecting the medical industry, major US Drugstore chains remained positive about their immediate business prospects. Speaking at the Reuters Health Summit in New York, all the major players in the industry were optimistic about their prospects. Greg Wasson, President and Chief Operating Office for Walgreen, talked about the general recession and its effects on the medical industry. "We're certainly seeing an anxious consumer, like everyone else is describing these days. We see them looking for more affordable essentials," Wasson said. However, he revealed that sales of Walgreen-brand aspirin, ibuprofen and other over-the-counter drugs are rising with people turning to self-medication to cut the costs. All the leaders were of the opinion that the recession calls for better planning and management. Once you are ready to give what the customer wants, success is yours for the taking.
